Abstract
One hundred cultures were taken from the external surface of the eyelids of newborn infants immediately after birth and before the cord was cut. Ninety-six per cent of the cultures were positive, and from one to four organisms were isolated in each positive culture. A total of 167 organisms were identified of which Staphylococci, E. coli, and Streptococci were predominant. © 1948.
