Abstract

Methyl deoxycholate, methyl 12α-hydroxy-3-cholenate and methyl 3α-hydroxy-11-cholenate were reduced to the corresponding C-24 hydroxy compounds. The latter were selectively deoxylated at C-24 to give 3α, 12α-cholanediol, 3-cholen-12α-ol and 11-cholen-3α-ol, respectively. Some ester and chloro derivatives are active seroflocculants. © 1959, American Chemical Society. All rights reserved.
