Abstract
1. 1. A new instrument is described which produces any desired number of interpolated leads between the extremity leads of the electrocardiogram. 2. 2. An analysis of the new leads in terms of lead vectors demonstrates that they represent the projection of the electromotive forces of the heart on any axis of the Burger triangle. 3. 3. Some of the problems in which this instrument may possess unique investigative value are discussed. 4. 4. Bipolar and unipolar extremity leads are shown to constitute special cases of a general type of extremity lead. On the basis of a priori reasoning it cannot be concluded that the bipolar leads are inferior to unipolar leads and should, therefore, be abandoned in their favor. © 1954.
