Abstract
1. 1. Protein metabolism has been studied in vivo and in vitro using S35 methionine. The 3-hr. protein uptake of S35 has been expressed in terms of micrograms of administered S35 methionine/μg. of protein nitrogen. This expression has been utilized as a metabolic index of muscle, bone, and healing fractures. 2. 2. The metabolic index of healing fractures is 3-5 times greater than for control bones, whether the metabolism was determined in vivo or in vitro. © 1953.
